SPEN VALLEY GREENWAY

The Spen Valley Greenway is a very well surfaced tarmac path free of all motor traffic. Running from Oakenshaw, south of Bradford, through Cleckheaton, Liversedge and Heckmondwike to just south of Dewsbury it is both an excellent commuter and family leisure route. A similar greenway to the north of the existing one, along the disused railway between Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike will ultimately form part of a Spen Valley Ringway. It is hoped the route will also link into a largely traffic-free Calder Valley cycle route connecting the area to Brighouse and Wakefield and beyond.
Gordon North, Sustrans Warden for the route can be contacted at: littletown@tiscali.co.uk 01924 411307

Clockwise from above:
Crossing the A58 in safety towards Oakenshaw,
A different perspective of the Greenway from a bridge,
Learning to cycle in safety,
A great place for walkers and cyclists to mix.
