Several companies operate in the West Yorkshire
area - here are their policies for carrying cycles on trains:
Northern Rail
Cyclists may travel on any service operated by Northern Rail where
space
permits. Most trains can only accommodate two bicycles. There will
be no
extra charge for bringing your bicycle on a Northern Rail service. Bicycle
spaces can be reserved on certain services. To avoid disappointment
it is essential to book at least 48 hours in advance of your journey.
Reservations can be made at many staffed stations, at Rail appointed
Travel
Agents or by phoning 0845 600 8008. On all other services, space
is
allocated on a first come, first served basis subject to space being
available. Only one accompanied bicycle per person will be allowed,
in the
interests of other customers. Folding cycles carried free of charge
without
restriction. Motorised cycles, tandems, tricycles and 'Rann' type
trailers
cannot be conveyed.

NB
Your cycle: Whilst 'normal' cycles are allowed on trains,
subject to the
above, for the most part, tandems, tricycles, recumbents and trailers
are not.
At the station: Many trains have carriages
with a symbol indicating which entrance to use if you have a bicycle.
For longer trains enquire of station staff where on the platform to
stand so you will be able to get your cycle straight on.
Connections: Non-folding cycles are
not carried on replacement bus services.
Your journey: If you are not staying
by your bicycle during the journey, label it with your contact details.
Onward Travel: If you will be changing
trains outside the Metro area, check with the operating company to
see what conditions of cycle carriage will apply. The leaflet ' Cycling
by Train' describes those conditions for all train companies operating
on the National Rail network and is available from station enquiry
offices.
There is a page on the website www.atob.org.uk
about taking bikes on trains.
