New Route Sections
Hebble Trail
A great section of the National Cycle Network on mainly flat trail in this extremely hilly area. It follows the line of the old Hebble Branch canal from Salterhebble to Phoebe Lane and from here uses quiet roads and lanes to get to the train station and town centre. From Salterhebble you can use the Calder& Hebble canal towpath to head west to Copley or east to Elland. See Maps & Guides
Spen Valley Ringway
A short but very useful new stretch of tarmac railpath stretching from Cook Lane at Heckmondwike to Eddercliffe Crescent at Littletown, where you can link to the Spen Valley Greenway on the opposite side of the A638 by using Primrose Lane. KERR - Kirklees Eastern Riding Route
Two circular routes of 13 and 17 miles linked to form a figure of eight for mountain bikers, walkers and horseriders. Links to Denby Dale and Upper Denby as well as the the Spen Valley Greenway. See Maps & Guides
Kirklees Routes in the Pipeline
Autumn 2004 saw work start on links towards the Calder Valley and the Spen Valley Greenway from Dewsbury centre. The planned Fenay and Meltham Greenways also made strides forward. See Cycle Routes - Other Routes

New Publications
New Trans Pennine Trail Publications
A new full-colour 3rd edition of the Official Trans Pennine Trail Accommodation & Visitor Guide was published in March 2005. Expanded to 112 pages and including 40 suggested day walks and rides off the trail. The TPT maps now have a second updated edition and have been redesigned so that 2 maps cover the whole coast to coast section of trail and a third covers the north-south section.

Aire Valley Towpath Route
A very handy free leaflet in the Sustrans series of free leaflets detailing the improved towpath route via Kirkstall, Armley, Apperley Bridge and Shipley to Bingley. See Maps & Guides

New Northern Rail Franchise Awarded In late 2004 a company called Serco-Ned were awarded the large northern rail franchise and now operate under the name Northern Rail, taking over the area previously covered by Arriva.
